The Lifespan of a Flash Drive

Some of my friends do ask me about the lifespan of a flash drive because they know that.... I'm an electronic engineer. Frankly speaking, I do not know much on flash... :P

Here is the explanation taken from NYTimes.com... Hope it help to clear your doubt..

The memory cells used in flash drives do eventually wear out, but this is typically caused by the number of times data is written to the memory - as opposed to the physical age of the drive itself.
Depending on the type and manufacturer's specifications, a flash drive may have 10,000 to a million data write cycles before it begins giving error messages when you try to use it. The amount of time a flash drive works also varies with the physical condition of the device. Many suffer a shortened lifespan because of trips through the washing machine, accidents underfoot or unfortunate encounters with house-hold pets. With proper care, a flash drive could last years!! But if you start to get a lot of error messages when you try to use it or it seems noticeably slow, it is probably time to move all the data off that drive and back to the computer or to a new flash drive.

For more details.. you can read on this page. :D

Things about WHAT TO DO After A Car Accident

Today, I notice a car accident at the road site. It is not serious but i saw one woman, scratching her head, starring at her car and looks worry. The uncle keeps scolding her (He is too NO gentleman)....
Sadly,I guess she does not know what to do next. Do you guys aware what to do when you meeting an accidents?

Here are some tips that i read from newspaper and would like to share with you guys.. What should I actually DO when meeting an accident??

1.  Think safety first! Make sure everyone is safe. If anyone is injured, get medical help immediately.

2. In all car accidents:
  • Make a police report as required by law within 24 hours.
  • Notify your insurance company immediately.
  • If your car needs repairs, send it to your insurance company's authorized workshop. Complete and submit the Claim Form together with the doc as per the insurance company's procedures.

If the accident involves another car (a third party), please:
  • Provide your insurance company with details of the third party such as vehicle details (make, model, license plate) and driver's details (name, IC number, contact details, insurance company). The more details you have, the better.
  • Do not negotiate, admit or repudiate* any claim with the third party.
  • Notify your insurance company of police action against the driver, if any.
  • Refer to your insurance company if you are being approached for compensation.
  • Forward all relevant documents to your insurance company as soon as you receive them.
I hope this help you. I welcome all comments from you! :D

*Repudiate (verbs): To reject as having no authority or binding force
