Somewhere Over the Rainbow...

Somewhere over the rainbow...

When i was young, i always stood in front of mirror and thought who am i and where do i come from. I found an answer.. i am my parents daughter. haha... i thankful of them bringing me up well. My dad was quiet, but caring. My mom was talkative, but tough. When i was young, my heart was complaining about the ways they bring me up. But, without them, may be i already end up my life in jail. :P i thanks God for them. Do u ever see your parents getting older and older? i saw. Appreciate them while they are still around. I love you, pa and ma.

Somewhere over the rainbow...

When i was young, i was thinking siblings were troublesome. I was wrong. They were the best companion i had. I thankful that i had my best two sisters, chiou yen and chiou huey. I loved them. I was sorry i was not a good and protective sister last time. I was sorry i was rude to them. I loved... i loved them. I thanks them for everything they did for me. Indeed they were more protective than me. Chiou yen dare to kill cockroach, while i am not. Chiou huey always let me sleep with chiou yen as i scared to sleep alone. Girls... love, love and love you.

Somewhere over the rainbow...
I started to walk through my life, getting older and older with companion of relatives, friends. Without you all, i am alone in this world. I am so thankful i am born to have all of you to be around. At hospital, i saw some friendship last until the patient last breath. Their friends were so supportive, even though they are growing old as well. Life is short. Nothing is more important than having loves and cares. Money? Money is important. But not as important than loves. Loves endured and make a person cared. Be a blessing to others while you are able.

Night in the hospital

Patient will always ask me.. nurse does not need to sleep? Most of the "ah po's" will say:" at night, i do not want to call the nurse because will disturb the nurse to sleep?" Sometimes i feel like laughing when heard this. But, dear patients... nurse do sleep. But different time. Sometimes i am sad when roey work, i am off. When i work, roey weekend. At the moment i choose nursing as my career, i expected this. It is not hard to care. Everyone has a caring heart, just you want or not.

For me, night syif is harder than other syif. haha... because i like to sleep. My close friends knew it well.I need to battle with "zhou gong". Some people think night syif is scary. At first, i have such perception too.But what to do, my profession need me to work at night. I really thanks God for the passionate i have for my patient.Only then, i able to overcome.

The common problems that many night shift workers face are:
  • Stress – Irregular working hours and pressure to perform better contribute to high stress and sometimes it could be even traumatic.
  • Disorders – Various disorders like insomnia, fatigue and disorientation accompany night work
  • Obesity – Physical inactivity, excessive eating, wrong food choices and irregular eating habits make one gain weight
  • Gastrointestinal and digestive problems – Wrong eating habits contribute to indigestion, stomachache, heartburn and loss of appetite
  • Cardiovascular diseases and blood pressure — Night shift workers are more prone to cardiovascular problems
  • Behavioral and emotional disturbances – Night shift working causes many disturbances in one’s life like depression, decline in self esteem and resentment, anxiety, hopelessness, withdrawal from social interactions, strong urge to cry without specific incident, avoidance of previously enjoyed activities, phobia, fears and unwanted thoughts.
With a few essential changes, night shift workers can avoid the health complications of shift works and ease adverse symptoms. A healthy lifestyle and, most importantly, right nutrition choices help you save yourself from the adverse effects of night shift work.
Here are some healthy eating tips to stop weight gain and other health complications.
  • Drinking at least two liters of water a day helps in improving digestion. Lack of water intake results in thirst headaches and fatigue.
  • Balanced varied meals and regular meal timings keep up your health.
  • Increase fibre content in your diet. Oat bran and ragi are rich in fiber content. Take in complex carbohydrates/whole grain carbohydrates instead of refined carbohydrate.
  • Plan the time you take your meals carefully. Eat lightly throughout the night shift and take a moderate breakfast to prevent hunger while sleeping and get uninterrupted sleep and digestive discomfort.
  • Keep a check on your fat intake: Keep out red meat and organ meat as they are high in saturated fat content. Instead opt for egg white, lean meat pieces or fish in your non-veg meal option. But, it should not be fried.
  • Prefer buttermilk to aerated drink because it is a healthier and cooler option.
  • Avoid heavy meals after midnight because they make you feel drowsy.
  • Also avoid fatty, spicy and high fat foods during overnight for the same reason.
  • Relax during meals and allow time for digestion.
  • Avoid caffeine and alcohol as they affect the rate of digestion.
  • Limit alcohol intake to one or two pegs once or twice a week
Apart from the above diet tips, follow these tips and techniques.
  • Always change shifts ahead and not backward. Rotate from mornings to afternoon to night and not in the reverse manner. It helps your body to cope up with the shift pattern.
  • Have a good sleep in the day by setting up proper condition for sleep. Darken your room and put your mobile on a silent mode for an undisturbed sleep. Also, tell your friends and family how important is that few hours of sleep for you.
  • Avoid excessive use of antacids, tranquilizers and sleeping pills.
  • Learn relaxation techniques that help in healthy sleep.

Hope those above tips will help you who also work during the night. Gambatte!! :D

A Nurse's Prayer by Melodie Chenevert, RN

Being a NURSE means......
You will never be bored.
You will always be frustrated.
You will be surrounded by challenges.
So much to do and so little time.
You will carry immense responsibility and very little authority.
You will step into people's lives and you will make a difference.
Some will bless you. Some will curse you.
You will see people at their worst-and at their best.
You will never cease to be amazed at people's capacity for love, courage, and endurance.
You will see life begin-and end.
You will experience resounding triumphs and devastating failures.
You will cry a lot. You will laugh a lot.
You will know what it is to be human and to be humane.

A blessing in Lynn's life...

Do your morning greeted by many “ah po’s” (grandma) and “ah pek’S (grandpa)? Everyday I did. It is a blessing. Every morning (if I work morning syif), I will help them to wash their face and brush teeth. Sometimes, I bring their “portable teeth” to toilet and wash them (it is denture :P). After the morning care, feed them with breakfast. Next is medicine time. Actually, love and smile are the best medicine for them. After the “boss” (doctor) come and visit them, I will bring them to shower or sponging (for who are bed ridden). Chit chat time with them is the best. I never had a grandpa. Now I have, some more I have few in one shot. Some of the family accompany their parents walked the rest of his or her life. But, some are not. Some of the elderly rather to stay at hospital. So, can guess what is my professional? Yes! I am a nurse, in medical ward. Want to know more about my experiences and healthy tips during my working time? Stay on to this blog. ;) 2nite i am working night syif.. stay tune for more stories..

Lots of love,
Lynn

Things about WHAT TO DO After A Car Accident

Today, I notice a car accident at the road site. It is not serious but i saw one woman, scratching her head, starring at her car and looks worry. The uncle keeps scolding her (He is too NO gentleman)....
Sadly,I guess she does not know what to do next. Do you guys aware what to do when you meeting an accidents?

Here are some tips that i read from newspaper and would like to share with you guys.. What should I actually DO when meeting an accident??

1.  Think safety first! Make sure everyone is safe. If anyone is injured, get medical help immediately.

2. In all car accidents:
  • Make a police report as required by law within 24 hours.
  • Notify your insurance company immediately.
  • If your car needs repairs, send it to your insurance company's authorized workshop. Complete and submit the Claim Form together with the doc as per the insurance company's procedures.

If the accident involves another car (a third party), please:
  • Provide your insurance company with details of the third party such as vehicle details (make, model, license plate) and driver's details (name, IC number, contact details, insurance company). The more details you have, the better.
  • Do not negotiate, admit or repudiate* any claim with the third party.
  • Notify your insurance company of police action against the driver, if any.
  • Refer to your insurance company if you are being approached for compensation.
  • Forward all relevant documents to your insurance company as soon as you receive them.
I hope this help you. I welcome all comments from you! :D

*Repudiate (verbs): To reject as having no authority or binding force
